A Sweet Magnolias Novel - Stealing Home
I have read the first chapter of Sherryl Woods, 'Stealing Home'. It is the first novel in the Sweet Magnolias series.
I watched the Netflix series earlier this year only to discover that it was based on a book series and I immediately knew that I had to read the series. Even after reading only the first chapter of the first novel I have already noticed some differences between the books and the tv series. I look forward to comparing and contrasting as I continue on with the series.
Based on the Netflix series and the first chapter of Stealing Home, I recommend to anyone who likes a good friendship story with some romance, drama, and Southern charm intertwined.
The Power by Naomi Alderman
Just finished The Power this afternoon. Originally published in 2016, it definitely hits differently in 2022. It’s the story of females coming into a physical power, seemingly overnight, and appearing first in teenage girls. Essentially, it’s about the role reversal of power away from patriarchal society and into one lead by women. It is an uncomfortable read with no likeable characters and scenes of graphic violence and rape. It will definitely make you think about how our world works (and more often, doesn’t work) for certain groups of people and what power and control do to people.
Big reading week
We were on vacation last week and I read so much. I loved book lovers, Florida woman, and the Work Wife. I’m currently reading bookish people and an Inflatables book with my son. I also picked up the US cover of Son of Elsewhere.
Quicksilver Court by Melissa Caruso
I finished The Quicksilver Court this week and absolutely loved it. This is book 2 in the Rooks and Ruin series and I will be very impatient waiting for book 3 in December. I'm not sure what I'm going to start next, I have Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty and The Roughest Draft by Austin Siegemund-Broka both sitting on my To Be Read pile.
My New Book
I finished my old, so currently I have been reading the Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I love this book, and I think it has become my new obsession. I really like the medical twist, and I think it is an easy-to-read book. So far I have read many chapters so I would say around 100 pages, but I still have about 200 more pages. This book is one of those that I can never put down. I really hope to read the rest this summer, will be missing doing these challenges tho!
Lessons in Chemistry
I am reading Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. It is the story of a woman who is a chemist in the 1960s and then becomes the host of a cooking show.
It was supposed to be funny, and it is very much not. Every male character so far is a mean misogynist, there are rape scenes, every work place is toxic and hostile and it is not a good time.
I may not finish this one.
Grit :the power of passion and perseverance
I am about to start Grit
I read some summaries of this book and found out very interesting book, that teaches readers how to achieve goals despite of difficulties
My Book
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens is my new favourite book. My friend wants me to read it quickly so we can go watch the movie and I am very excited for it. Currently, on page 300/368, so almost done and we plan to watch the movie this weekend. The book is filled with mystery and suspense so if anyone likes that this is the best book to read.
