Who do you share your book life with?

Submitted by CarolinaP on June 25 at 8:26 am

Hi everyone! I'm 27 and I'm curious to know about who do you share with your comments and opinions about the books you read. Personally, not many of the people close to me likes reading, that's why I enjoy activitues like this so much.

Unfortunately No One

Submitted by MichelleG on June 25 at 5:39 pm

Hi, I read so much and share it with no one really. I will occasionally read the same book as someone else (mostly my parents) and we will talk about it a little , but nothing in depth.

My youngest and I both enjoy reading fantasy and often share books. We spend time together watching BookTube and love shopping for books together.

I started a virtual book club

Submitted by sklymchuk on June 26 at 8:07 pm

I started a virtual book club with some friends at the beginning of the pandemic, and we talk about a different book every month or so! It has been a good way to read some books that I would have no, otherwise.

I enjoy reading with my 2

Submitted by Saruimi on June 27 at 10:01 am

I enjoy reading with my 2 daughters, they devour books.  As a busy mom who once read about 3 books a week, I have *really* slowed down. My SO isnt a reader.  I was also raised by a reader, and aim to do the same - even if time does not allow, 30 mins a day is great.

My bestie is a book dragon, and I love her for it. All the books, all the time, all the shares and knowledge.

Some friends or a couple people on instagram

Submitted by Britt on June 27 at 11:09 pm

I share with some of my friends but even then they’re not as into reading as I am. I started posting books I read each month on Instagram stories which have sparked some conversations about books. I also follow a bunch of people who post their reads as well so I’ll comment and share my thoughts if I’ve read the same book or the book is on my list to read. I just find Instagram a really good way to connect with people about shared interests :)

I usually share my current

Submitted by usemeinasentence on June 30 at 3:54 pm

I usually share my current reads with my partner, and sometimes recommend books to him. Sometimes he reads them, sometimes not. I like to share book recommendations with my mom, but she reads mostly thrillers so we stick to that. I'm trying to talk to more people in my life about what I'm reading, and sometimes I'm surprised to find out someone I know well reads often but never talks about it!

My Sister and Mom

Submitted by 12eph on July 1 at 8:28 am

My mom and I will share book recommendations back and forth.

My sister and I used to do a mini-book club together where we would read the same book. We haven't done it in a while though but this post reminded me of it and I would love to bring it back!

Great Idea

Great idea, I do the same with my family as well with exchanging ideas and doing almost a small book club among the family members!

Ma voisine

Submitted by Marie eve morin on June 25 at 11:55 am

Je partage mes lectures avec ma voisine, qui lit, elle aussi, les même livres que moi présentement. Nous lisons les Bridgerton, et pouvons discuté de ce que nous aimons, versus la séries Netflix.

My son

Submitted by Jessica Avery on June 25 at 8:34 pm

I have not a lot of readers in my personal circle, but now that my son is 8, we are reading some middle grade and graphic novels together. My friends have diverse reading tastes, but some will let me share a great reading experience. I have a bookstagram account but I’m flaky at best for posting reviews.

Which books have you read more than once?

Submitted by sklymchuk on June 26 at 8:10 pm

I almost never read books more than once. But I did recently reread Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, which I first read in high school. This time around, I feel like I focused on different themes in the book!

I completely agree with you;

Submitted by Sara on June 27 at 9:22 am

I completely agree with you; when I reread a book after a while, I learn new things.

Because everyone grows and changes gradually, returning to a previous book would have been a new adventure.

Mostly kids books

Submitted by BookNerd on June 27 at 5:23 pm

My tbr is too long to take time to re-read books, but I have definitely read books on my own and then years later, read them to my kids. Harry Potter is a great example.

My library is full of 'old friends'

Submitted by Leaca on June 28 at 12:55 pm

I have a couple bookshelves full of books I have read more than once.  While I do read a lot of new books only the once, these are always there should I need a comfort read, another visit to Pern or Narnia or Westeros, and some time visiting with old friends.

Three Generations

Submitted by SBW on June 28 at 8:01 am

My father and son both enjoy the page turners of Clive Cussler as much as I do. They are great for a summer time read and spur conversations about all the featured locations and historical events.

Self-rescuing Princesses

Submitted by Leaca on June 28 at 12:58 pm

I am currently reading Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede with my daughter (7).  What books would you recommend that feature breaking-the-mold characters that we could look at after this one?

Hey

Submitted by SummerReading on June 29 at 10:03 pm

Hey!

I have heard so many good things about the novel. I personally haven’t read it but my friends have. You should definitely try a novel called These Violent Delights. It has very interesting character development. Let me know if you decide to read it! :)

Do you prefer reading series or Stand-alone books?

Submitted by 12eph on July 1 at 8:27 am

I really love reading series but only if the entire series has been completed. Once I start reading a series I want to know how everything ends. I need to know how everything resolves and the ending for all characters. This is the reason why I also really enjoy stand-alone novels.

I do not enjoy open-ended or speculative endings as much as those that feel complete.

Getting Back Into Reading

Submitted by latho4312 on July 1 at 11:24 pm

Growing up I was an extremely avid reader.  I loved reading anything and everything and I absolutely devoured books.  Since the end of high school, I haven’t gotten the same joy out of reading that I once did and I am looking for advice about getting back to loving reading again!
